He was also president of the Association of Painters and Sculptors founded by Baron Taylor. Daligé de Fontenay traveled extensively but primarily painted Normandy, Brittany, Switzerland, and the Pyrenees. Our painting is a watercolor, which is rare in Daligé de Fontenay's oeuvre. It is in very good condition and remarkably fresh. The colors are beautiful, particularly the blue of the sea. A very successful watercolor with that remarkable rendering of texture so characteristic of Daligé de Fontenay. A work with a very picturesque subject, yet at the same time filled with small descriptive details typical of the fishing community in Normandy in the mid-19th century!
