An Oriental Woman in Her Interior

Trace of a signature in the lower left corner "H****"
On the back, a study ofan apostle
Beautiful gilded wooden frame from the late 19th century
Good condition
This painting depicts a beautiful Oriental woman in her home, reminiscent of the portraits painted by the Belgian Orientalist Jan Baptist Huymans with those recurring details such as the wall made of ceramic panels on the left, the tea pot with its cup on a small table on the right and the red tissues. And as always in his paintings, there are very fine jewelries and the young woman's attitude is very graceful, with her hand slightly lifting her dress to glimpse a foot being unshoeed!
On the reverse is also a study of an apostle. It is worth noting that while Huysmans is known primarily for his Orientalist works, he also produced numerous religious works for churches in Jerusalem, as well as decorative panels in churches and municipal buildings in Belgium.
