Neoclassical Bronze Sculpture With An Allegorical Subject, "goddess And Cherub," Mid-19th Century.

Artist: Dans Le Goût D'eugène Antoine Aizelin (1821- 1902)
A beautiful bronze group with a neoclassical theme depicting an allegorical or mythological scene involving a goddess and a cherub.
The goddess is depicted seated, clad in a loose, antique-style drape and wearing a wreath of laurel leaves; she appears to be finishing adjusting the brooches that hold her tunic in place, while a young cherub (Cupid?) assists her by holding out a mirror....
A very beautiful, unsigned composition, yet strongly in the spirit of the French sculptor Eugène Antoine Aizelin (1821–1902).
Generously sized and of high-quality craftsmanship, this beautiful bronze has retained its original "mordorée" patina and is in excellent overall condition.
French work dating from the mid-19th century.
