Kozuka Handle, High Quality, Shakudo And Shibuichi, Japanese Edo Period, Signed By Hidetoshi
Artist: Hidetoshi
Here is a superb kozuka handle—a small tool with a blade that fits into the tsuba of a samurai sword. Unfortunately, it is missing its blade, but it is nonetheless of great interest due to its quality. Made of brass, it is adorned with a design depicting a European dressed in Japanese style, giving a command to his dog, which is sitting and lifting its paw. The design features Shibuichi inlay of silver and gold, and Shakudo inlay for the character’s hat. A mark of high quality, the edge of the handle is also decorated. On the back, a clearly legible signature is engraved in relief: Hidetoshi.
Excellent condition, with a few microscopic traces of oxidation, clearly visible in my detailed photos—please examine them carefully; I’m not hiding anything!
Japanese working dating from the Edo period, most likely the 18th century.
