Blackened Silver, Vermeil, And Garnet Bracelet - Frédéric-jules Rudolphi, Mid-19th Century
A rare and stunning bracelet made of blackened silver, vermeil, and garnets, crafted by Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi, one of the great Parisian goldsmiths of the 19th century.
It consists of eight articulated circular motifs, connected by large vermeil rings. Each element is adorned with faceted garnets forming a floral design, accented by delicate vermeil flowers that stand out against a finely textured blackened silver background.
An oval medallion forming a pendant, featuring the same design, harmoniously completes the ensemble.
The bracelet is preserved in its original monogrammed case, bearing the name of the Rudolphi house.
About Frédéric-Jules RudolphiBorn in Copenhagen in 1808 and based in Paris, Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi was a leading figure in Romantic goldsmithing. A student and later partner of the famous goldsmith Charles-Louis Wagner, whom he succeeded in 1841, he developed a refined body of work, drawing inspiration from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
His creations are distinguished by the finesse of their chasing, their sculptural compositions, and the contrasts in materials. A contemporary of François-Désiré Froment-Meurice, Rudolphi contributed to the revival of historicist jewelry in the 19th century. Awarded two gold medals at the Paris exhibitions of 1844 and 1849, followed by a first-class medal at the 1855 World’s Fair, Rudolphi enjoyed significant recognition during his lifetime.
