French work from the École de Tours, 19th century.
Did you know?
Bernard Palissy, a master ceramicist of the French Renaissance (circa 1510 – circa 1590), became renowned for his rustic dishes decorated in relief with animals and plants molded directly from nature.
In the 19th century, his techniques experienced a true revival—often referred to as the "Palissy Revival" or Palissy Wave. In Tours, workshops such as that of Charles-Jean Avisseau carried on his legacy, creating works inspired by his distinctive aesthetic—a blend of naturalism and fantasy, at once decorative and scientific.
