Jasperware porcelain (or "jasper") is one of the great inventions of Josiah Wedgwood, an English master potter of the 18th century. Developed around 1775, this mass-colored paste is decorated with hand-applied white reliefs, often inspired by Greco-Roman mythology.
It was at the turn of the 20th century, with the return of the taste for Antiquity, that French jewelers took hold of it again, sometimes combining it with noble materials such as platinum and fine pearls, to create jewelry of precious and scholarly sobriety, highly prized by enlightened connoisseurs.
