"fishermen's Boats" By Max Bouvet (1854–1940)
Nicolas Maximilien Bouvet, known as Max Bouvet, born on December 3, 1854, in La Rochelle and died on August 5, 1940, in Joigny?, was a French opera singer—a baritone—as well as a Post-Impressionist plein air painter.
As a painter, Max Bouvet is known primarily for his seascapes in a Post-Impressionist style, often depicting panoramas of Brittany and the Vendée.
It is not uncommon for opera and theater artists to pursue, with passion—and sometimes with talent—an art form outside their own field.

Progress was evident; so too was the growing fame of Max Bouvet’s seascapes and landscapes—vibrant with warm light and infinitely varied in impression and tone—which were featured in all the major exhibitions in Paris, throughout the provinces, and abroad.
The Queen of the Belgians acquired several paintings by this dual-talented artist and honored them with a place in the Royal Palace of Laeken.
