"still Life With Peaches" By Georges Rohner (1913-2000)
Artist: Georges Rohner ( 1913 - 2000 )
Georges Rohner (1913–2000) was a painter of animated compositions, genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes, murals, and also a draftsman, tapestry designer, and illustrator. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Lucien Simon from 1929 to 1932. From 1934 to 1936, he completed his military service in the French West Indies. He lectured at the École des Beaux-Arts and later became a professor at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He was elected to the French Academy of Fine Arts and made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. He also taught painting at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He often worked near Nice and lived in Paris. He participated in the Parisian Salons: the Salon de Mai, the Salon des Indépendants from 1932, the Salon des Tulleries from 1934, and regularly since 1946 the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur temps, as well as numerous exhibitions devoted to French art in the United States, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland. He exhibited his works in many solo shows, beginning with his first in 1937 at the Musée de la France d'Outre-Mer, where he presented paintings brought back from his stay in the Antilles. After being influenced by both Braque and Derain, in 1935 he joined the Forces Nouvelles group founded by Henri Héraut, which included Jannot and Humblot, who, along with him, would subsequently remain faithful to the adopted aesthetic, namely the reference to the "painters of reality" of 17th-century France, and in particular to Georges de La Tour. What they find there is justification for a return to the object as a reaction. Oil on canvas, signed lower left. Size: 46 x 55 cm. Framed: 64 x 73 cm. Montparnasse
