"route Aux Genêts" (provence) La Cadière d'Azur. René Genis (1922–2004)
René Genis was a French painter. Known for his translucent use of color in his depictions of landscapes and still lifes, Genis’s work oscillates between developed forms and flat areas of color. His compositions create a harmony between the depicted scene and the formal qualities inherent to painting, highlighting the medium’s material properties while incorporating details from a carefully observed world.
Born on January 26, 1922, in Hué, in what was then French Indochina, Genis and his parents moved to Bordeaux when he was still a child. He studied art at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris under Albert Marquet, where he met fellow artists and began exhibiting his work. Genis’s works are primarily found in French collections, such as that of the museum in Aix-en-Provence, but are also exhibited internationally, notably at the Yamagata Museum in Tokyo.
