Saburō Amano (天野三郎, 1919–2006), a Japanese painter born in Yamanashi Prefecture, belongs to the yōga tradition (Western-style painting). He graduated from the Department of Arts at Nihon University in 1942 and was a student of Kenzō Okada (1902–1982, trained in Paris and Japan) and Kinosuke Ebihara (1904–1970, active in Paris, a student of Foujita).
Admitted to the Nika Exhibition in 1950, he exhibited there regularly and received the gold medal in 1962.
Invited to the Salon d’Automne in 1970. Recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award in 1987. His body of work includes abstract compositions and figurative subjects. Several paintings are held in Japanese museum collections: Itabashi Museum of Art—Tokyo Museum of Art, Joshibi Art Museum—Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art. He passed away in 2006.
