Ch. Breton – Lively Forest Glade – Oil On Canvas – Late 19th Century
Ch. Breton – Lively Woodland Scene – Oil on canvas – Late 19th century
A significant oil on canvas from the late 19th century, signed “Ch. Breton” in the lower right corner, depicting a path winding through lush woodland.
The composition captivates with its beautiful depth and remarkable handling of light. The foliage, with its many shades of green, opens onto a sunlit clearing that guides the eye toward the heart of the landscape. A small figure walking in the foreground discreetly enlivens this scene imbued with calm and poetry.
The work is presented in its substantial antique frame of wood and gilded stucco, richly molded, which lends it a striking presence.
The back of the antique canvas bears a paint dealer’s stamp, now partially faded.
