Decorative Egg Mounted In Gilded Bronze (empire/neoclassical Period)
A decorative piece consisting of a natural egg with a speckled shell in shades of brown, mauve, and blue, mounted on a finely chiseled gilded bronze base in the Empire/Neoclassical style.
The top is crowned with a domed lid adorned with an openwork frieze and surmounted by a gilded bronze pheasant with outstretched wings and tail, serving as a handle.
The circular base is supported by three female figures draped in the classical style (caryatids/dancers), rendered in the round, holding between them panels of sculpted drapery.
The pedestal is decorated with an engraved compass rose/eight-pointed star and rests on a circular plinth featuring godrons and a frieze of stylized floral motifs.
The underside of the tabletop is lined with black felt.
