Antique book-shaped storage box or jewelry box (trompe-l'œil). A charming and very poetic piece.

The top lid (resembling a book cover) features a glossy black lacquer adorned with gold-leaf decoration in an Asian (Japonist) style that was very fashionable during the Napoleonic III era. It features delicate flowering branches and birds in flight, finely rendered in gold.

The center of the cover is adorned with a brass medallion engraved with delicate, intertwined initials.

The book’s edges are delicately decorated with parallel gold lines simulating the pages of an antique book.

The clasp features a pretty, ornate metal tab engraved with floral motifs on top, complemented by a metal locking tab on the underside.

Interior: Entirely finished in smooth black lacquer, clean and ready to hold your jewelry, secrets, letters, or small valuable accessories.
