Important Ceramic Owl Floor Lamp By Walter Gerhards, 1960s–70s
Walter Gerhards
A striking sculptural ceramic lamp depicting a stylized owl, entirely hand-modeled and hand-glazed. The bird’s body features a contrasting two-tone glaze: deep black on the head and blood red on the body, pierced with multiple circular holes in an openwork style, creating a play of light when the lamp is turned on. The large, hollowed-out round eyes and the beak accentuate the expressive character of this piece.
The base is made of black glazed ceramic, matching the rest of the sculpture.
The original, large-format cylindrical lampshade is made of white textured fiberglass with chrome finishes at the ends, in the true spirit of 1960s–1970s design.
