Venetian lacquered wooden box decorated in the Arte Povera style, with a domed lid and wrought metal hinges. 19th century.

The Arte Povera technique originated in Venice in the 18th century. Venetian masters would cut out paper prints or engravings (often depicting romantic scenes, mythological subjects, or landscapes), glued them onto wood, and then coated the entire surface with numerous layers of a transparent resin called sandracca to protect them and create the illusion of a genuine glossy lacquer finish.
Well-preserved, with minor signs of age.
