A 19th-century white porcelain bowl and saucer from Louis Philippe’s tableware set for the Château de Trianon.
Beautiful decoration featuring gold fillets, vine tendrils, and the large monogram of King Louis Philippe (LP beneath a gilded royal crown) framed by a wreath of laurel and oak leaves. During the July Monarchy, King Louis-Philippe abolished the “grand couvert” and established five types of Sèvres porcelain services, the opulence of which determined the recipient: the Service des Offices, the Service des Officiers, the Service des Bals, the Service des Princes, and the Services d’apparat. The first four feature the king’s cipher in blue, red, or gold but without polychrome decoration, whereas the ceremonial services are multicolored.
Excellent condition; a very small chip in the gilding on the edge of the saucer. No damage.
