Camille Fauré – Spherical Vase with Floral Design

A beautiful spherical enameled copper vase by Camille Fauré, made in Limoges, featuring a rich, polychrome floral composition in relief. Its spherical shape, particularly characteristic of the studio’s work, is entirely adorned with flowers in shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, and green, complemented by stylized foliage.

The decoration is distinguished by its thickly applied enamel, giving the flowers a truly sculptural presence. The various layers of enamel, combined with iridescent and translucent effects, allow light to reflect off the surface and cause the colors to shift depending on the lighting.

Camille Fauré (1874–1956) was one of the key figures in the 20th-century renaissance of enamel art in Limoges. After World War I, he established his own studio specializing in enamel on copper. Beginning in 1919–1920, his studio produced increasingly ambitious pieces, and Fauré surrounded himself with experienced enamelers.

The period from 1925 to 1930 was particularly significant for the studio: the designs fully embraced the Art Deco aesthetic, featuring modern forms, relief decorations, and compositions with particularly vibrant colors.

After 1930, production shifted further toward more accessible designs, particularly floral and naturalistic motifs, which would remain emblematic of the Fauré workshop.

For this specific piece, given its spherical shape and very rich floral decoration, a date around 1930–1940 can be considered, but the signature on the base would need to be examined to be more precise. Similar floral ball vases are documented around 1930.
