Description:

This pair of finely chased patinated and gilt bronze candlesticks rises on a fluted patinated bronze shaft, punctuated by gilt bronze rings decorated with stylized palmettes and flowering scrolls, underlined by a fine frieze of waterdrop gadroons, motifs characteristic of the decorative repertoire of the Restauration period. The flared nozzle and the molded socket in gilt bronze, finely chased, accompany a circular radiating gadrooned foot, giving the whole an elegant, slender silhouette.

This taste for neoclassical ornament, tempered with a lighter elegance characteristic of the reigns of Louis XVIII and Charles X, illustrates the continuity of the decorative vocabulary inherited from the Empire, softened by more slender lines and a renewed floral decor. Mounted as lamps with discreet wiring, these candlesticks are now topped with drum lampshades in pleated yellow silk, gold-lined on the inside, which diffuse a warm, enveloping light while preserving the original spirit of the pieces.
