Louis XVI Period French Rosewood Marquetry Flat Desk

Description:

This flat-top desk is a masterpiece of French cabinetmaking from the late Louis XVI period. Crafted in rosewood veneer, it features a medallion decor with contrived fern motifs on a rosewood background, framed by Greek key patterns and marquetry bands. Every side of the piece is meticulously worked, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.

The desk opens with two lateral pull-out slides, a central drawer, and two side compartments with stacked double drawers, the right one serving as a chest. The top, covered in exceptional lime-green leather, specially crafted by our artisan gilder, adds a unique touch of refinement. The legs, adorned with simulated fluting, rest on sheathed feet with reserved decor.

The gilded bronze fittings (inkwell, pull rings, keyhole escutcheons, and embedded feet) complete this exceptional piece, blending elegance and functionality.
