18th-century Wooden Crucifix, France.
A beautiful, large crucifix depicting Christ without his cross, mounted on a panel covered in olive-green velvet. The figure of Christ is intact; both arms have been reattached. The crown of thorns is made of iron. The face is very beautiful and pure. His eyes are closed, indicating that Christ is dead. Original polychromy; the wound on the right side is indicated by blood. The perizonium is rendered in broad folds. Very beautiful proportions.
