Mendel Mann (1916–1975) was a writer and artist of Polish origin, a leading figure in Yiddish literature and European Expressionist painting. His paintings, imbued with melancholy and poetry, reflect the landscapes of his childhood in Eastern Europe, bathed in the cold light and silence of winter.

This watercolor on paper, dating from the 1950s–1960s, depicts a winter landscape with a country road lined with bare trees.
