Map Of Nubia And Abyssinia, Antonio Zatta, Venice 1784, 18th Century

Copper engraving depicting “Nubia and Abyssinia,” published in Venice in 1784 by Antonio Zatta e Figli, taken from the *Atlante Novissimo*.
The map depicts northeastern Africa, including Nubia, Abyssinia, the Red Sea, and part of the Arabian Peninsula, and is embellished with an elegant engraved cartouche. At the bottom is the inscription “G. Pitteri scr.”, referring to Giovanni Marco Pitteri.
Engraving on laid paper, with borders and some details hand-watercolored in the style of the period.
The sheet measures approximately 48 × 38 cm and consists of two parts joined in the center, as is also clearly visible on the reverse side.
The condition is consistent with its age: there is widespread blooming and foxing, signs of aging, and slight warping of the paper. The central joint between the two sheets is visible.
