Art Nouveau Vase In Silver-plated Metal – Wmf
A refined and expressive vase, crafted by the prestigious German company WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) around 1900–1910. This piece perfectly exemplifies the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) aesthetic, characterized by organic forms and graceful mythological figures.
The vase is made of silver-plated metal and bears the authentic “WMF I/O as” mark on its base. Its surface, delicately hand-hammered, beautifully captures and reflects light.
The decoration features three-dimensional high-relief applications:
On the vase’s rounded body and along the neck, graceful winged nymphs or woodland spirits (putti/fauns) are depicted in a dynamic composition that gives the impression they are interacting with one another.
The delicately crafted details of the hair, anatomy, and wings attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of the WMF workshops during that era.
The warm shades of copper and bronze, which shine through the authentic patina developed over time, lend the object remarkable depth and warmth.
