Biscuit Bust Of A. Carrier-belleuse
Artist: A. Carrier-belleuse
Biscuit porcelain bust of a woman, late 19th century, after a model by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887), made by the Laporte factory in Limoges.
The woman wears an elegant dress adorned with roses and a hat richly decorated with bouquets of flowers and a ribbon. Her wavy hair is tied back in a chignon. The bust rests on a blue and gold porcelain base. A small chip at the base has been restored. Signed: CARRIER-BELLEUSE.
The biscuit bears the mark of the Raymond Laporte factory in Limoges. In 1882, Raymond Laporte left the porcelain factory he had run since 1878 in partnership with Henri Ardant. In 1883, he founded his own factory, devoting himself to the production of artistic pieces. The Laporte factory was taken over in 1898 by Poinsot et Langle, then in 1902 by Batiot. In 1906, it was acquired by the Michelaud brothers, who ran it until its closure, around five years later, around 1911. This piece dates from around 1890.
