GEORGES CHARLES COUDRAY (1862–1944)

Georges Charles Coudray was a renowned French sculptor and medalist , born in Paris on January 31 , 1862 .
He was the brother of the sculptor Marie-Alexandre-Lucien Coudray (1864–1932) .
He distinguished himself from the artists of his time through his refined depictions of female figures and his sensual Orientalist compositions .

He began his apprenticeship in 1884 at the School of des Fine-Arts in Paris , where he studied under the sculptors Alexandre Falguiere , Henri Allouard , and Gabriel-Jules Thomas .
As early as 1883 , he exhibited numerous works at the Salon of French's Artists , primarily in the Art Nouveau style and , more specifically , female subjects , notably busts , drawn from mythological , literary , and Orientalist themes .
Working primarily in bronze , marble , and terracotta , G. Coudray skillfully combined the elegance of Art Nouveau with the refinement of Orientalist and exotic subjects .

His figures are distinguished by fluid lines , delicate modeling , and a sense of ornamental detail that reflect both a classical heritage and a modern sensibility .
Still working in the Art Nouveau style he particularly favored , he produced vases , planters, and other decorative objects in various materials .
We also owe to Georges Coudray several medals issued by the Monnaie de Paris between 1926 and 1932 .

The sculptor died in Paris at his home at 5 rue Robert Fleury in the 15th arrondissement on December 6 , 1944 .
