Large Curtain, Made Of Linen And Mesh Lace, With Figurative Designs, Late 19th To Early 20th Century
A rare piece: a large period curtain from the late 19th or early 20th century.
It is made of natural linen, with a beautiful drape and a lovely ecru hue, featuring a lace frieze with hand-embroidered netting on a hand-knotted grid of regular square meshes, decorated with a rich
figurative iconography inspired by the Neo-Renaissance.
The frieze, at the bottom of the panel, depicts a couple in period costume, surrounded by stylized foliage.The entire piece is framed at the top and bottom by superb geometric animal-motif bands,
finished with a fine bobbin lace border at the bottom.
Original linen ties are present at the top, ready to be tied to the rings on a curtain rod.
The dimensions are: 138 cm wide x 185 cm long.
