Large Pair Of Classic Silk Panels, 19st Century.
A pair of straight curtain panels of monumental height (480 cm x 135 cm), likely commissioned for the windows of a château or a Haussmann-style mansion. The fabric was probably woven in Lyon; the design is highly elegant, featuring vertical satin stripes in golden yellow and pearl grey, interspersed with garlands of beige peonies. The small pleats at the top of each panel are hand-stitched, and the cotton sateen linings show signs of having served their purpose, confirming they effectively protected the silk. The silk itself is substantial yet supple. One panel is in good condition, while the other is somewhat fragile due to two small tears—measuring 7–8 cm and 2 cm—located along the same edge; minor restoration is required. The set includes a pair of finely crafted trimmings, which remain in good condition despite a few loose threads. Commentaires Recherches associées
