Important Bronze Sculpture – Woman Dancing With A Putto – Signed Lequesne – 19th Century

Artist: Lequesne
Important bronze sculpture – Woman dancing with a putto – Signed Lequesne – 19th century

A beautiful and important bronze sculpture with a brown patina, depicting a young woman in a dancing pose, accompanied by a putto.

The female figure, dressed in a loose, antique-style tunic, is depicted in a particularly expressive pose, with both arms raised and her gaze turned toward the sky.

At her side, a winged child appears to be participating in the scene, holding aloft an attribute.

The ensemble rests on a large, richly carved naturalistic base, adorned in particular with foliage, bunches of grapes, and fruit, evoking a Bacchic world.

The modeling is particularly meticulous, both in the facial expressions and in the rendering of the drapery and botanical details.

The base bears the signature “LEQUESNE”, attributable to the French sculptor Eugène-Louis Lequesne (1815–1887).

Very fine craftsmanship and a pleasing antique brown patina with warm tones.

Period: 19th century.

In good overall condition, with wear and variations in the patina consistent with its age.
