Bronze Statue Of Antinoo, Italy, 1880 Circa

Bronze stature of Antinoo after the antique.  The original sculpture was found in the excavations near Palestrina in 1792.  Antinoo , favorite of the emperor Hadrien is here  represented as Dionysus, god of wine and exstasy.  His hair is adorned with a bay   wreath and berries. His head which   once carried a cobra or a lotus flower in the replica is replaced with a pine cone.  Drowned in the Nile, Antinoo  was deified by Hadiren. The culpture  rests on a marble base.  Perfet condition, good patina.  Italy, about 1880.
