Bronze Statue Of Antinoo, Italy, 1880 Circa
Bronze stature of Antinoo after the antique. The original sculpture was found in the excavations near Palestrina in 1792. Antinoo , favorite of the emperor Hadrien is here represented as Dionysus, god of wine and exstasy. His hair is adorned with a bay wreath and berries. His head which once carried a cobra or a lotus flower in the replica is replaced with a pine cone. Drowned in the Nile, Antinoo was deified by Hadiren. The culpture rests on a marble base. Perfet condition, good patina. Italy, about 1880.
