Mahogany Dresser-secretary – England, 19th Century
Elegant secretary desk in flamed mahogany, featuring a drop-down panel that conceals a fully equipped writing desk, as well as four large drawers on the front. This piece elegantly combines the functions of a chest of drawers and a writing desk, a hallmark of high-quality 19th-century furniture.
The drop-down panel reveals a light maple interior featuring six small side drawers, a central drawer, several storage compartments, and a large writing surface upholstered in gold-embossed leather with small metal studs. The two lower drawers feature compartments designed for inkwells, which are preserved with their original cups, attesting to the piece’s historical use.
The front is accented by an elegant light-wood trim. The drawers are fitted with finely chiseled bronze knobs and original locks. The sides are made of mahogany, while the entire piece rests on a discreetly curved base.
This writing desk displays fine craftsmanship and a superb, warm patina. Please note that restoration is required on one corner of the top, as visible in the photographs; this does not affect the piece’s structural integrity or overall aesthetic.
