Wood And Wrought-iron Bread Knife Dated 1808 - 19th-century Alsatian Folk Art

A bread knife made of fruitwood and wrought iron, featuring a pediment carved with a radiant anthropomorphic sun and a crescent moon, symbolizing the passage of time and the eternal cycle of days and nights—often associated with the concept of abundance. These are complemented by friezes of small flowers and the date 1808 surrounding the owners’ initials.

A piece of folk art from the early 19th century, likely originating from the Rhine region (Alsace, Switzerland, or southern Germany).

Beautiful handcrafted ironwork, notably the heart-shaped mounting plates and the scroll-decorated wing nut. Forged-iron blade with its original turned wooden handle.
