18th-century Green-tinted Glass Liqueur Bottle, Blown Glass, 18th Century
A green-tinted blown glass bottle with a significantly distorted shoulder around its narrow neck; the base is deeply pitted with a sharp pontil mark. The glass is fairly thin, with numerous elongated air bubbles running vertically.
The absence of wear under the base led me to believe that this bottle may have been protected by a plant-based wicker sleeve. The presence of a very similar model in the book Antique Glass Bottles on page 231 (reproduced) supports the hypothesis of Alpine or Italian production around the mid-18th century, likely intended for bottling liqueurs.
Dimensions: height 20.5 cm – diameter 6.5 cm – weight 143 grams.
In good overall condition, with no cracks or chips. There is a horizontal mark two-thirds of the way up the bottle, visible in the photographs.
