Artist: Marius Roux-renard

ROUX-RENARD, Marius (1870–1936)

"The Terrace with Geraniums in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,

A beautiful work by the painter Marius Roux-Renard depicting a terrace in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon adorned with numerous pots of blooming geraniums.
The painter has skillfully used the interplay of light and shadow to convey the intensity of the sun on this terrace. He also employs a vibrant palette to beautifully depict the flower buds.
A composition that requires no watering or maintenance but will certainly enhance your home.

We can compare our composition to a similar work by the artist titled “Terrace with Geraniums and a View of Avignon” (reproduced on the painter’s Wikipedia page).

A student of Pierre Grivolas, then of Elie Delaunay and Gustave Moreau, Marius Roux-Renard exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1893 to 1932, where he won several awards, notably the Bashkirtseff Prize in 1898.
In 1894, he dabbled in sculpture before returning fully to painting.
From 1906 to 1910, he exhibited landscapes of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon at the Salon des Indépendants.
He also exhibited at the salons in Avignon, Marseille, and Nîmes.
He was commissioned to paint the ceiling for the Caisse Épargne and the offices of the Société du Canal de Provence in Carpentras.
His works are now housed in several museums in Avignon and Paris.
In 1992, the Musée Louis Vouland in Avignon dedicated an exhibition to him.

Dimensions: 46 x 32.5 cm unframed and 55.5 x 41.5 cm with a modern wooden frame.
