Elegant Three-drawer Trilobed Side Table, With Sea-green Fake Marble Decor – Ca. 1900

A rare and elegant parlor side table dating from around 1900, featuring an original trilobed shape reminiscent of a three-leaf clover.

Its base opens to reveal three drawers arranged in a fan shape around the central column. Each drawer is fitted with a bronze pull knob.

The entire piece is enlivened by a remarkable trompe-l’œil painted decoration imitating sea-green marble. Executed with great skill, this work by the painter-decorator realistically captures the deep hues and dynamic veining of this highly sought-after stone.

The trilobed top is centered by an elegant compass rose in polychrome faux wood. This radiating motif, combined with the piece’s three-part shape, gives it a unique character that evokes the symbolic and esoteric world particularly in vogue at the end of the 19th century, although no Masonic or spiritualist purpose can be formally established.

The pedestal table rests on a turned central shaft, topped by a circular base also painted to resemble sea-green marble. Its bronze tripod base, with its simple and elegant lines, gives the piece a beautiful balance.

With its unusual design, the quality of its trompe-l’œil decoration, and the originality of its tabletop, this guéridon is an accent piece that is as rare as it is decorative. It will naturally find its place in a living room, a boudoir, a library, or a cabinet of curiosities.
