19th Century Libertin Table In Marble And Bronze With Double Patinefin
Rare decorative panel with gallant and libertine subjects dating from the late 19th century.
This elegant composition takes the form of a large moving slab of griotte red marble, probably Italian, set in a bronze mount.
In the center is a remarkable bronze in high relief with double patina depicting a couple dressed in 18th-century fashion in a gallant scene inspired by the libertine universe dear to the artists of the Louis XV century.
The two figures are seated on a Rocaille-style chair and exchange a passionate kiss. The quality of the chasing allows us to appreciate numerous details: powdered hairstyles, jewelry, shoe buckles, trimmings, costume buttons and ornaments.
The particularly lively modeling, combined with the nuanced gilding and burnished parts, gives the ensemble a remarkable decorative presence.
A characteristic object of the late 19th-century historicist taste for 18th-century galant scenes, on the border between curiosa, collector's item and refined decoration.
Please note: a small accident to the marble in the lower left corner, approx. 2 cm by 0.5 cm, visible in the photographs.
