Important Pair Of Candlesticks Featuring Young Wildlife Figures, Bronze With Vermeille Patina, Louis XVI Style, 18th Century
A striking and elegant pair of
-style candlesticksdating from around 1900.Crafted in bronze with a beautiful vermeil-colored patina, they depict two young fauns with pointed ears, crowned with vine leaves and clad in simple loincloths of foliage. Each stands against a tree stump and supports with his arms two long, sinuous branches richly adorned with leaves and rosebuds, forming the four candle holders.
The ensemble features a highly decorative composition, inspired by the naturalistic and mythological repertoire of the late 18th century. The slender lines of the plant stems contrast harmoniously with the childlike roundness of the fauns, creating an elegant movement of great lightness.
The sculptures rest on beautiful circular white marble bases, adorned with a frieze of bronze beads and mounted on small spinning-top feet, in the purest Louis XVI style.
This pair was formerly electrified, a modification that has now been restored.
For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that there is a small chip on one of the marble bases, as well as a missing small leaf element on one branch. These minor imperfections are barely noticeable and do not detract from the excellent decorative quality of the set.
A very elegant pair of candlesticks that will naturally find its place on a mantelpiece, a console table, or a large sideboard in a classic or eclectic interior.
