A Russian Silver-gilt And Cloisonné Enamel Easter Egg, Moscow, Late 19th–early 20th Century

Easter egg opening in two parts in vermeil (gilt silver, gilded interior) and polychrome cloisonné enamel, with neo-Russian decoration of filigree scrolls, rosettes and stylised geometric motifs on a cream ground, enhanced with gadrooned friezes and beaded borders in shades of turquoise blue, midnight blue, red, green and orange.
Moscow. Late 19th – early 20th century.
H _ cm.
Very good condition.

In Imperial Russia, the tradition of presenting enamelled Easter eggs was a major symbol of renewal and represents a pinnacle of the decorative arts under the last tsars. Moscow goldsmiths’ workshops particularly distinguished themselves in the creation of these refined works of art, using cloisonné enamel with traditional filigree motifs.
This object belongs to the production of neo-Russian “objets de vertu” from the late 19th or early 20th century, attesting to the virtuosity of Russian enamel masters in creating shaped pieces with subtly harmonised colours.
