Pair Of Opaline Perfume Bottles, Palais-royal, Charles X Period

A pair of turquoise-blue opaline perfume bottles, with openwork gilded brass mounts featuring filigree foliage motifs; the necks are accented with a gadrooned band; the hinged stoppers each set with two glass-framed scenes depicting views of Rome (St Peter’s Square and the Colosseum).

During the Restoration, the shops of the Palais-Royal in Paris specialised in producing exquisite decorative and toiletries made from coloured opaline, adorned with openwork settings and embellished with small miniature scenes mounted under glass, intended for a wealthy clientele of art lovers and travellers on the Grand Tour.
