18th-century French School — Portrait Of Queen Marie Leszczyńska (1703–1768)

The painting measures 68 × 58 cm (image size) and 62 × 42 cm with the frame.
The work has been re-stretched and is displayed in its original frame, made of gilded stucco, finely decorated, and typical of 18th-century taste.

Marie Leszczyńska is depicted with grace and majesty, wearing a richly ornamented red gown and a tiara. She is shown wearing her blue-of-France cape adorned with fleurs-de-lis. Noteworthy in the lower left corner is Queen Marie’s crown, a rare example of a French queen’s crown, as nearly all such regalia were melted down during the French Revolution.

This painting depicts the queen on the occasion of her marriage to Louis XV, celebrated on August 15, 1725, in Strasbourg. It is a period copy of the portrait of Marie Leszczyńska by Carl Van Loo, now held at the Strasbourg Historical Museum.
These copies were produced to be sent as diplomatic gifts, among other official uses.
