A genre painting rich in subtle details, attributed to the circle of David Teniers the Younger (1610–1690). The composition follows the characteristic tradition of 17th-century Flemish genre painting, with figures rendered with finesse and details executed with great precision.

The mark “726 FP” on the reverse also allows the work’s provenance to be traced in the archives of Christie’s auction house. According to Christie’s records, the painting was entered for auction on April 1, 1933, and was subsequently sold along with its companion piece—titled “The Gardener” and “ An Itinerant Optician”—on May 26, 1933, during the “Engravings in Color and Old Pictures” auction in London.
