Painting The Dean Of The Master Painters And Portrait Of Montalembert Late 18th Century
Painting, oil on canvas, depicting the Dean of Master Painters, walking with a cane and carrying a painting under his arm, a portrait of Marc René de Montalembert with the inscription "Gifted with a beautiful genius..." A countryside landscape with figures is present in the background. This painting is presented in a carved and gilded wooden frame decorated with heart-shaped motifs. The painting has been relined. It dates from the late 18th/early 19th century. The painting is inspired by the work of Jean-Jacques Spoede (1680–1757), with the difference being that the painting under his arm is turned back to glorify Marc René de Montalembert.
