Louis XIII Standing Figure In Walnut With Diamond-shaped Points – 17th Century
An impressive walnut standing cabinet, featuring the beautiful architectural details characteristic of traditional French Louis XIII furniture.
The piece consists of two stacked sections, separated by a wide drawer running around the middle. Each section opens with a heavily molded central door, adorned with a remarkable geometric relief decoration forming a large diamond-shaped point.
The uprights are punctuated by molded rectangular panels, while the sides feature a simple paneled design. The piece is crowned by a wide, overhanging cornice accented by a dentilled frieze and rests at the front on two flattened ball feet.
The interplay of volumes, the depth of the moldings, and the distinctly architectural design of the facades give this piece a commanding presence.
The walnut features a beautiful, warm, and nuanced antique patina, revealing the marks and irregularities acquired over time.
Antique hardware and lock plates. A movable bronze handle adorns the center drawer.
The piece shows signs of use, past restorations, minor imperfections, and repairs consistent with its age, as visible in the photographs. These elements contribute to the piece’s character and authenticity without detracting from its overall appearance.
A very fine example of traditional Louis XIII furniture, particularly decorative due to its proportions and the extensive molding work on its two doors.
