Artist: Jean Lecluse (1934-2026)

J. Lecluse – "Opus 114" – Oil on canvas – Op Art – 2005

A superb Op Art composition by artist J. Lecluse, titled "Opus 114," painted in oil. A masterful work that demonstrates perfect technical mastery of the Op Art (Optical Art) movement, a style based on optical illusions and the interplay of geometric perception.

The composition, skillfully constructed around a pattern of diamonds and triangles in gradations, creates a powerful effect of depth and optical vibration. The subtle interplay of shades of blue, gray, and white, punctuated by touches of aqua green, produces a sense of depth—demonstrating technical mastery and a perfect understanding of the codes of Op Art.

A play on optical illusion where the repetition of the motif and the chromatic gradation give the work a hypnotic movement and depth.

Jean Lecluse (Romsée 1934–Liège 2026).

Painter, draftsman. Self-taught. Found inspiration in Italy (views of Venice, Florence, Milan) and in Paris, where he painted extensively. He evolved toward Surrealism, creating desert landscapes with precise lines and influences from comic books; later, he moved toward Op Art and abstraction.

Among other exhibitions, he showed his work with “Art d’Europe” in Brussels in 1970.

He is an artist who is gradually being rediscovered and who deserves our attention.
