Julius Theodor Kalmár (1884-1968), Small Bedside Lamp, Desk, Table, 1950s
Table Lamp – Julius Theodor Kalmár – Austria, circa 1948–1955
A charming bedside, desk or table lamp of intimate and delicate proportions, signed by the Austrian designer Julius Theodor Kalmár (1884–1968), one of the leading figures in lighting design in Central Europe during the 20th century.
The brass tripod base bears partially legible markings — "...&(...) A" accompanied by the number "24" — discreet yet valuable clues to its origin. Typically Austrian in its manufacture, the piece reflects the care and precision characteristic of workshops from this pivotal period, between the late 1940s and early 1950s.
It retains its original pink silk shade, a rare testament to its period condition — a few light stains are to be noted, as visible in the photos. The switch is original, and the lamp has been fitted with new wiring and a new plug, ensuring safe everyday use.
