Rare Tuscan Buffet In Poplar And Walnut, Triglyph Frieze, Italy 17th Century
Beautiful and rare 16th-century Tuscan credenza, crafted in poplar wood with mouldings, knobs and ornamental motifs in walnut. The frieze below the top is decorated with the triglyph motif, drawn from the classical architectural repertoire, alternating on the front with a lozenge element. The two large doors, framed by mouldings and embellished at the corners with turned studs, are fitted with elegant turned handles; at the centre, an egg-and-dart motif underscores the piece's distinctive character. On the right side is a long drawer; the interior of the piece is divided by a shelf.
The credenza retains its original, intact structure and a fine patina of age, with minor restoration consistent with the period and history of the piece.
