The Ambert factories were built in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, east of Orléans, in 1917, initially under the name A.C.E.O.-C.G.E. (Ateliers de Constructions Électriques d’Orléans – Compagnie Générale d’Électricité) and then, more simply, “Ateliers d’Orléans” starting in 1918. Until that time, they primarily produced ammunition; after World War I, they shifted their focus to electromechanical production (motors, alternators, generators, etc.).
