A charming little watercolor by Gaspard Gobaut depicting a lively view of the western tip of Île de la Cité, with the Passerelle des Arts in the background, the Institut de France on the left, and the Louvre on the right.In the foreground: the equestrian statue of Henry IV by François-Frédéric Lemot (unveiled in 1818, after the 17th-century statue was destroyed during the French Revolution in 1792). Behind and below, the tops of the trees in the Square du Vert-Galant are visible, as well as the 18th-century building that once housed the public baths. The baths closed in 1836, and the building housed a café-concert until 1879, when it was destroyed following a major flood. Depictions of the former baths on Square du Vert-Galant are rare.
