Large Carlsbad Porcelain Presentation Platter, 19th Century
Large circular hard‑paste porcelain platter, featuring a rich polychrome decoration entirely hand‑painted in an “all‑over scattered” composition.
The decoration depicts a series of figures in traditional Chinese costume, stylised exotic birds, and numerous small geometric or pseudo‑calligraphic motifs inspired by Oriental aesthetics.
The rim is highlighted with a gilt line, now slightly softened through age and use.
Manufacture of Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary): the “CARLSBAD” mark is incised on the reverse, together with the number 33, likely indicating either the model number or the decorating artisan.
Condition: very good overall condition; light wear to the gilt rim and minor firing imperfections, consistent with age and artisanal manufacture.
