Panel In Antique Silk Lampas – 19th Century (240 × 160 Cm)
This panel in precious lampas silk has been meticulously crafted by assembling various squares of fabric cut from a period women's dress. These are likely the least deteriorated parts of the original garment, carefully selected to preserve the silk’s elegance.
The fragility of the textile, probably present even before the creation of this intricate patchwork, is evident from the fact that each fragment was previously reinforced with a fine cotton gauze. This artisanal precaution attests to the extreme care taken in preserving the material.
The panel has been trimmed with a short fringe.
The imperfections are typical of the aging of silk, which is frayed in several areas; the slits are numerous and especially visible when viewed against the light.
